I asked one of my best friends what their favorite verse was. They gave me this reference, and because it's such a great pick, I decided to post it on here.
Psalm 73:25-26
King James Version (KJV)
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
This passage is obviously one of praise. I love the simplicity of it, and how it brings our focus off of things of this world and leads us to look to the only person that truly matters (or should matter).
I have posted on similar concepts in the bible, discussing what our focus should be, and why we need to depend on God for joy, peace and satisfaction. The fact of it is, the entire bible focuses on this point. Through it all, creation, the old covenant, the crucifiction and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, and His coming return all focus on the fact that God is all that matters. He created us so that we could have fellowship with him. That is our purpose.
In these verses David states that his one desire is God, and that God is all that he has in the afterlife that really matters. That is so powerful and so absolute.
The next verse is beautiful. It states that David's heart fails... but that God is the strength of his heart. It is stating that without God, David had no meaning. Without that spiritual walk, and that fellowship with his Creator, he had nothing to live for.
I believe that every Christian should memorize these verses and apply them to their daily prayer life. The way I memorized it was through music. If you haven't heard the song that this psalm has been applied to, I would encourage you learn it. Music is the best way to memorize scripture.
Thank you, as always, for reading! I hope this encouraged you and I hope you have this attitude about your Lord. He is truly the strength of our hearts and our portions for ever. You will never feel full of joy until you have this point down.
